After our initial discussion we will begin our assessment. We can talk through your hopes for therapy, current difficulties and potential therapy approaches. A full assessment will include your history, discussion of any previous therapy and a detailed understanding of what you would like help with.
It can be very confusing to understand the different types of therapists available.
As a counselling psychologist I have completed a degree in psychology as well as a three year doctorate and later training in additional therapy models.
We use this to complete a detailed assessment. Typically this may take two to three sessions. We use this to develop what we call a ‘psychological formulation’. This is a skill that distinguishes psychologists from other therapists and helps us to jointly understand what are keeping your problems going. We use the formulation to develop a treatment plan.
One of the benefits of seeing a private clinician is the flexibility it gives you around session numbers. We are not limited to a set number so can discuss this as part of your treatment plan.
Sessions are 50 minutes long.
